"Hi, my name is Freya.
My mum is one of the goats that provides the fresh milk for your soap."
We use Goats milk in our soap recipes because it's known for its wonderful moisturising properties and makes a lovely creamy soap that is suitable for all skin types.
Over the ages people have found milk, and particularly goats milk to be just the thing to pamper delicate skin. Goats Milk Soap has also earned itself a reputation for soothing sensitive skin and helping with conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.
Goats milk contains several unique fatty acids that are perfect for creating a luxurious goat soap recipe. Named after the Latin word for 'goat', we have Caproic acid, Caprylic acid and Capric acid, all of which are reacted during the soap making process.
We produce goats milk soap using the milk from our herd of rare-breed Golden Guernsey dairy goats: The Bluehills Herd. As a breed, Golden Guernseys are not considered suitable for commercial goat milk production due to their modest output.
But…one way to help ensure the breed survives is to use them in ways that suit their talents. In the words of the Rare Breeds Survival Trust "Native Breeds for Modern Needs".
So…we concentrate on quality rather than quantity. Instead of trying to produce milk for human consumption we thought that making high quality handmade soap would be a lovely way of using the milk and allow 'the girls' to pay their way.
So why not take a little time to check out the goats of The Bluehills Herd and consider buying some soap to make their lives worthwhile :-)

The fresh goats milk we use comes from our own herd of rare-breed Golden Guernseys that graze on the rural pastures of Herefordshire. You can find out more about them on the Bluehills Herd web site.
